Written by bestselling author Josie Brown, Totlandia is the hilarious tale of four moms (and a dad) who will do whatever it takes to gain admission into San Francisco’s elite mothers’ group. Run by not-to-be crossed Bettina Connaught Cross, the Pacific Heights Moms and Tots group is at the pinnacle of social success, offering unlimited prestige to its diaper-clad members and their parents. But the standards are high – flawlessness is the norm and nothing less than perfection is accepted.
Or so it seems.
As the mother of two, I guffawed at the playground shenanigans, barfed at the cheetos-shunning, handcrafted-costume-making, holier-than-thou moms and empathized with those that sometimes feel they just can’t do it all. And then there’s the bondage.
While Totlandia is a really fun read that has at its core a more serious message: Why do moms do that to each other?
Reading it really gave me some perspective on life and the expectations I set for myself. You don’t have to be a mom to relate, or even a woman.
